It adds to the games already in the NWC, especially in the historical sense.

Mssrs.,

By all means, 7YW should be added to the club.

Paco

I'm not sure, despite all the similarities it's somehow disconnected from the Revolutionary & Napoleonic wars.

How would we name the club?
Napoleonic, Revolutionary & Cabinet Wars Wargame Club? Would make a fancy NRCWWC.

Consider the SYW as a prequel that extends to the Nappy era. No need for a name change.

How can you add 7 Years War to Napoleonic when the period is more Colonial Wars time, perhaps it would be better to change the name of the CCC (eg: Continental and Colonial Wargames Club, CCWC), it may give a boost to that club as no new games have been added there for a long time. Just a suggestion.

Add to both NWC and CCC. While we are "sister clubs" it doesn't mean that both cannot have the same game in their inventory.

Mssrs.,

The Seven Years War was an essential prelude to the Napoleonic period. For instance, it heralded the introduction of truly mobile field artillery with Austria’s Liechtenstein system of lightened guns, carriages and linen, powder cartridges. It both showcased the advantages of linear infantry tactics and its limitations, leading to the post-war theoretical revolution which culminated in France’s ordre mixte tactics. Last, but not least, during the 7YW cavalry tactics evolved from the 17th century’s caracole to the decisive shock tactics prevalent during the Napoleonic period.

Yes, there are significant differences in the tactics and strategy of the two wars, but the 7YW was an essential prelude to the later conflicts.

Regards,

Paco

I voted to add it. IMHO no one will force you to play it if you don't want to!!!
As Paco has said, the 7 Years War is part of a continuum of tactical and operational changes.
In the Napoleonic games, tactics were different in Republican Bayonets on the Rhine and Marengo, changing within the period covered by those games. The "middle war" game-Auersted, Jena, and eventually Eylau represent further changes. The later wars, starting in 1809, see a quality reduction in the French army and a large number of "artillery battles," such as Wagram, Lutzen, Bautzen, Borodino, and others where column formation dominates and masses of artillery play important roles in the battles. Gone are the complex manouvers of 1800, 1805, and 1806. And the Peninsual is its own thing too...

I entirely agree with Paco that as a prelude the SYW game, should be added to the NWC's game inventory. In so doing it may add interest and certainly diversity to the range of gaming experiences provided by the club. It may also attract new members. Definitely a win/win!

Well if SYW is really seen that way I wonder why we not also add the AGEOD game "Rise of Prussia" that depicts the SYW on a grand tactical scale?
