A LONG time ago there was discussion between Rich H. and John T. and myself about adding in the ACW end of phase Melee option. Meaning you did all of your moves and then did the melee at the end. My lone critique to it was since cavalry could not launch a charge AND do the melee right away (meaning run over skirmishers in the open) that it was defeating the purpose of the Single Phase.

So the NEW default settings were sort of a compromise. Since the ACW rule was not added in then the thought was to use the Defense Phase format WITH the new changes.

It would work for something like Teugh-Hausen (lots of woods .. not much cavalry). Obviously its not feasible for Leipzig.

Unfortunately, no matter how you slice it, with the Counter Charge and Auto Squaring rules not being options there were just only so many ways to "get the bear."

The new Threat Zone-Movement to Disorder rule should make advancing on cavalry harder. I have not tried it out .. funny enough I am more or less leaving all of the testing to anyone else at this point. I feel like I put in my time so to speak ....

But bravo to John and Rich for getting these new changes in. No matter how you view the series its the best on the computer planet.
