Post subject: | Question on hussars uniform |
Gents! We all know hussars were dressed not like any other unit in the army. No matter who they served - Napoleon, Alexander or Wilhelm. You'll see the same elements of the dress - doloman, pelisse and.... sabretache. For example here http://www.100megsfree4.com/napwars/article7.html are three nice pictures representing hussars and guard chasseurs wearing it all. If it's almost everything clear with the dress itself I still can't imagine what this sabretache was used for. [:I] Any ideas? Anton, I don't think that la Sabretache was not an instrument of any kind. It is only the name of the house that originally produced the drawings. Regards, Lt Pierre-Yves Guinard, 6e Division, II Corp AdN |

Try this: http://kildare.ie/Monasterevin-Historic ... ussars.htm "A second, waist belt, held the sabretache, a covered notebook. Troopers had plain black leather while officers had elaborately ornamented covers." It was mainly ornamental but it had a notebook on the other side. Often they wore a leather cover over it to keep it from the weather. Hussar experts might want to chime in on this. Oberst-Lt Wilhelm Peters 2nd Kuirassiers, Austrian Army |

Stop!!! No more links!! I loved it. Have been wanting to find some military prints. Of course these are from England so I will have to pay higher shipping. I actually have found many military art sites in the US. I found so many pics on your site you reference I would be broke in a week! Oberst-Lt Wilhelm Peters 2nd Kuirassiers, Austrian Army |

Bill - If you're not in a great hurry, let me know what you want (or order them and have them sent to me) and I can tote them home in the spring and mail them to you from NC. [:)] Sous-Lt Sean Turner 1er Dragons 2ème Division de Dragons Ier Corps de Réserve de Cavalerie l'Armee du Nord |
