For all you experts...

I am in the middle of a heated campaign and am in desperate need
of Pioneer units. I looked in the Reinforcment dialogue but nothing jumps out at me and says "Yes".

Can I look at the OOB ( how would I find it ) for the particular battle I am in and determine this ?

Just open up the Reinforcement Dialog and double click on any of the groups listed. The entire contents of the group will be listed in a separate dialog.

The OOB file of a game may have pioneers in it but the scenario may not thust its not always the best judge of whether you will get them or not.

If its listed in the reinforcement dialog then you will get them.

Note: Usually they are listed with artillery groups for the Austrians and for the French with the army engineers for the Wagram historical battle scenarios or under the corps artillery as per the Austrian format.

However, since some of the groups are large you might just need to look them over a bit.

Only mildly related to the subject, but I've been wondering why pioneers on both sides in this campaign have such high quality ratings. OK, they can build a bridge, but a unit that isn't well enough drilled to be able to form square (like the militia) must have some other combat shortcomings. Speaking as an old infantryman, my experience of "combat engineers" suggests the name may be an oxymoron.

Neville: You had me interested so I looked them all up. Here is what I found out:

Campaign Wagram
Wagram OB - French engineers are morale rating 5. No Austrian pioneers in this OB.

OTV OB - French engineers are morale rating 7. Austrians are 5. My error on the French and I will get a corrected OB off to John tonite for inclusion in the patch.

Linz OB - only Austrians - they are rated 5.

Aspern OB - no sappers for either side - destruction of the only bridge by the Austrians would have ended the battle.

Znaim OB - no sappers for either side - I need to add in engineers to this OB file.

Eckmuhl Campaign
Eckmuhl OB - French and Austrian Sappers are rated as 6. Will change them to 5 in a later patch.

Early Italian/Squadron OB - no sappers for either side as Sacile is not a battle about bridges. When I update the Eckmuhl game again I will add in sappers to this game for folks that want to make a scenario about a bridge crossing of the river.

Italian OB - found some French sappers - they are rated 5.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. So many small details in these games ...
