Hans: Sir, I just cannot believe that they are actually doing this."
Myself: "And, why not, you know I've been working for this for almost three and a half years.
Hans: But sir, your record.
Myself: What of it?
Hans: I'll be blunt sir, it's not good. There are the repeated thrashings by worthies with names like Palomo, Beecham, Sands, Spinali, Cox and Hamilton, just to name a few. You have far fewer wins than losses. You haven't even qualifed for a Grenadier battalion of your own.
Myself: your point being?
Hans: Sir, how can they promote you with a record like that?
Myself: Well, just remember, I'm an Austrian Officer, winning isn't important. Just looking good in white is all you need.
Hans: Well sir, truth be told...
Myself: Don't even say it.

In other words, through 3 1/2 long years of getting my ears boxed across Holland, Russia, Bavaria and in the Danube Valley, I've somehow managed to rack up enough points to be promoted to Feldmarschall.

I do believe the drinks are on me tonight. Helga, let the beer flow like water, and the wine like the blood of my poor troops under Paco's hooves!

Gary - as Austrians we must remember that our cause in life is to lose to the French so that they can get over confident and in turn lose to Wellington/Anglo-Allies! And thus keep the British coin flowing to the Austrian coffers for more estates, boats, trips to the Mediterranean, etc.

I mean, who cares about loans - the next generation gets to pay the debts of our wars that we fight today? (hmm, thought provoking)

Ok - well I am glad that we DO have some guys (Dermot, etc) that beat up on the French on a regular basis!

Sorry, but I cant help you. Paco keeps me in his closet and once in awhile graces me with a game - just so he can see if I have learned anything in my solitude! [8D]

Congratulations, indeed. Listen, I have yet to have a go at you, so if you'd like to tackle yet another French General, just say the word. Of course, there is no prospect of promotion in it for you, but at least there's the chance of buying me another drink. Well done. I understand the King of Austria, or whoever the puppet is who runs that land on behalf of the Emperor these days, has a handful of buxom daughters. I expect you're entitled to one or two of them as a prize. Enjoy.

Congratulations Herr Feldmarschall!!

Nonetheless,I am surprised to hear that you are troubled by such petty matters as the number of victories. I had always assumed that you were simply a master strategist conducting a classic, Fabian campaign[:D].

Lest we forget, George Washington was revered as "first in war" by his contemporaries despite the fact that he won only one, minor victory over some hung over Hessians at Trenton and the siege of Boston (The victory at Yorktown being entirely the product of French arms and Spanish dollars). Gen. Washington may have lost nearly all his battles, but he won the war[:p] ...

Paco

Now there is a man with class. Helga, get down my mug please and let the beer flow right into it. A new Feldmarshall with a big purse. That is what we like to see. And FM McClellan, don't fret about those losses to the Frenchies. I have been giving them up for years out of sympathy. To see them follow that Corsican around like dogs waiting for a bone, it stirs me to pity it does.
