Post subject:  Night of the Living Dead? NRC style

Good Evening:

Andy Moss and I are wondering if anyone else has had the same experience in HPS NRC? At Smolensk I lost thousands of Cavalry(twice as much as Andy as I remember) while he lost most of his Cossacks and over a hundred guns. Now several battles later, the French Cav is back , along with the most of those guns and the Cossacks. Are we misunderstanding how losses are handled in the Campaign System or does it reflect stragglers and reinforcements, or is it a game anomaly? It really has made those Redoubts hard to handle.[:o)]

As a general rule, troops return in the second battle after their loss. It's part of the engine. I suppose it represents both stragglers/lightly wounded, as well as fresh drafts.

Phil,
the campaign system works well when only ONE order of battle file is used (file with extension *.oob)
in Russian campaign, several .oob files are used sucessively, and losses are not carried from one oob to the other.
Campaign system never get any improvement from the start. Therefore, it is highly unnapropriate for long campaigns such as Russian campaign. It fits better for campaigns occuring in a short time period where replacements, logistics, and organisation considerations are less important.

I see. Yet in another game with Nick Buttler we have just reached Borodino and the losses from previous battles have been incorporated, at least to a point. Some leaders killed on both sides seem to have resurrected themselves however. In a Wagram campaign one battle ended in wholesale slaughter only to have the army resurrect itself entirely in the next battle. New drafts I accept but not new armies, it makes the campaign game pointless over a long period as Stephane suggests.
