Is this week and will be broadcast in the US on OLN on Sunday. This Spring Classic races down a stretch of Napoleonic era cobblestones. (Several miles of teeth chattering, bone jarring, narrow road.)

If you have ever wondered what a troop of hussars looked after a day in the saddle on mud soaked 'paved roads' take a look at these pictures from 2001: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/photo_galleries/1279520.stm

Yes, those ARE road bikes, not mountain bikes or even cyclocross.

This famous race is very difficult and dangerous. Normally rain and fresh weather for this week-end many more troubles for the racers

Looks like that they purposely wait for a wet week to run it in too! Either that or bring in the mud from the local farms!

As if the riders really mind! [;)]

Well I do believe that Ken Jones would feel right at home in this one. After Ghislain posted, I checked the forecast - yikes! Sauwetter The roads will not be in good condition. Hope their reflexes are all in good shape. Should be a nerve wracking day in the saddle.

OK. Watched a tape of the race today. Did not disppoint. Muddy, sloppy, quite a bit of attrition. Big breakaway in the end with thh favorite, an American, last years winner, and a Spanish guy in it. Came down to a three way track sprint. What a day.
