I am ceratin that it would make a good article on tactics for the NWC Newsletter. Why not take some snapshots and write a little description? The Editor would certainly be pleased with your contribution. [:D]

The "Battle of Giants" continues. Turn 13 (only 5th after armies got into contact) sees more glorious charges and counter-charges, resulting in almost unbeliavable bloodshed. Current loses are:

French
302 infantry
14720 cavalry
13 guns
22 commanders

Russians
19 infantry
10583 cavalry
12 guns
8 commanders

I'm very keen on integrity of our lands myself![^]

But make sure to save at least some men for reproduction. Or we would have no one to work these lands[:I]

Is this an all cavalry scenario or are there any more infantry there? I don't think I have ever seen cavalry losses on this scale and certainly not this early after contact. Are there not many turns in this scenario?

Well, its NRC TwinPeaks, a 2-day battle, where opponents start at opposite (W & E) map edges and cavalry reaches line of battle about 3 turns before infantry is able to [:)]

Thanks Pavel

Now I understand. And because they can reach each other in three turns, they do; with avengeance [:D]

Mark,

It's a little more complicated than that and Pavel is being much too modest.

Our esteemed opponents have hit upon a very clever Russian tactic which Tomasz and I were much too slow to fathom, mayhaps because we have campaigned for so long in Central Europe rather than the steppes [B)]. Specifically, the Russians have a decided numerical superiority in cavalry, on the order of 3/2, albeit nearly half of it consists of cossacks. Despite their lower morale, however, they are rated as "lancers" in NRC and, when used en masse, can kill elite French cav as well as any Gd Dragoon or cuirassier. Given the initial Russian numerical superiority, Pavel & Jeka have simply launched an all-out cavalry action, on all fronts. Their initial losses were acceptable since they a) were trading low-morale cossacks for elite cav, and b) their overall numerical advantage means that a straight battle of cav attrition would always end in their favor.[:(]

My hat is off to them for devising a crude, but nonetheless effective, strategy.

Regards,

Paco
