Wow. What a trip!

All plans for visiting Lutzen, Leipzig and Colditz put on ice once I arrived in Hoyerswerda in my trusty steed loaned to me by the Earl of Eurocar.

Putting up for the night in the town where Marshall Ney and general Lauriston had each passed through on their approach to the battle, I rested as the next two days would be long and hard.

As it turned out, the next four days.

We sallied back and forth across this incredible arena, my trusty steed and I. Following the approach and action of each of six principal French corps involved in the battle(s), beginning with those at Konigswartha and weissig, through the first day at Bautzen and the second to Wurschen.

Four days and about 650 images later, (that will take some processing!), I now have a much better understanding of what happened and why. Why Napoleon should have won a decisive victory and why he didn't.

If I had planned the trip better, I might have kept it down to 3 days there, but it is a really amazing place, ideally suited to Napoleonic warfare and what a stage it makes.

I did get a day of R and R in Dresden at the end of my short trip, but it was sltting it down with rain and the Military museum was closed [V]

Never mind, I shall be going back to Saxony next year, if not later this year, to see all the beautiful places the state has to offer, as well as some of the battlefields I missed. I can not recommend Saxony highly enough to anyone thinking of a trip there. It is stunning.

On a side note, the Earl of Eurocar was suitably unimpressed with me when I tried to explain that the unsightly scar on the right flank of his steed was a consequence of a close encounter with Cossacks in Malschwitz.

He seemed convinced I had hit a road sign. No imagination some people [:D]

Regards

PS. Lots of mail messages to deal with and one or two game files. All by the end of the week, a little more patience if you please as I have many panoramas to stitch to gether before I forget where they were taken.
