On this 16 June I salute the Prussian army for a stubborn fight against long odds whose outcome shaped history. (And a nod to Nosey's "scum" and Perponcher's valiant Dutchmen for keeping Ney distracted.) [^]

I salute The Emperor Napoleon I and the soldiers of the Armée du Nord.

The victory that they won 190 years ago is a fine example of the courage and determination of French miltary might.

I also salute the courage of the soldiers of both sides. Without their sacrifices, we wouldn't have our hobby.

SLudwig,

Today isn't Waterloo day. It is Ligny Day. Today, we honor all of those that fought. --For it is because of them that we have our hobby.

Don't you think that facing a determined opponent like the Prussians at Ligny takes some courage and determination? Don't you think that it takes something to eventually defeat that equally determined opponent? I am shocked that you find it something to laugh at.

I salute and honour the many nations who fought and died today and in the next couple of days, what ever their belief to mostly end up in an unknown grave.[^]

Relax there Lieutenant I was just whiping up a cheap shot at the French Armee here!! [:)] It's easy to get you guys going and I see it worked.

In true spirit I do find it honorable and it does take gall. I would rather shy away from it. I have plenty of honor for the French and all. If I did not would I not be French CiC in another Napoleonic's Club.

Honor to the souls!! May they find peace today!! [:)]

Thanks there Dierk!! The Prussians are a tough nut to crack as the French found out...as well are they. The Prussian system had come a long way since 1806. Pretty good for Landwehr against regulars....

And now as to 17 June ... probably *the* major feat that decided the Hundred Days--take this away and the Anglo-Allied army gets shredded to pieces at Waterloo:

Soundly whipped at Ligny, in which direction does Blücher retreat--eastwards into Germany, along his L of C? Nope, northwards to Wavre, away from his base, but towards the British. With an army whose morale is somewhere between controlled retreat and near rout. He rallies the boys and brings them back to the field of Waterloo on the next morning to save Nosey from certain annihilation.

I am not saying that Nappy could have won the war had the Prussians quitted Belgium. But Wellington would have lost an army. He damn near did as it were.

A decisive move indeed. The Prussians kept their word. Again like I said before not bad for a mostly Landwehr force against regulars. [:)]
