A similarly interesting thread as Tony's...

Who was Napoleon's best generals who never made it to Marshal?? There certainly were many to choose from!

Some names that come immediately to mind:

Vandamme
Kellermann (Jr)
Gudin
Morand
Lauriston
Bertrand
Junot
Desaix
Reynier
Drouet
Clausel
Lobau
Rapp

Ah... the glory lives on!!!

What about the best Allied commanders?!? Now there's a can of worms!

Lt. Tim Cavallin, AdR

Nice list Tim, but I think you forgot Eugene, and I would put him at the top of that list.

Maréchal Tony R.Malone, Comte d'Auvergne et Duc de Vauchamps: Division d'Infanterie de la Moyenne Garde; CDR III Corps Armee Du Nord
"The Guard may die, But it never surrenders".

Best non-Marshall - Desaix

Best Allied commander is (hands down) Wellington. Now that didnt hurt me to think of that one! [:D]

Others that come to mind:

Barclay
Picton
Rosenberg (probably the best of the Austrian corps commanders)
Blucher (a fighter of course, no great strategist)
Archduke Charles - probably the best overall army commander for the continental allies along with Barclay

Happy Waterloo day Allies! [:D]

Oberst Wilhelm Peters
2nd Kuirassiers, Reserve Korps, Austrian Army

The initial list is pretty good, but you forgot Friant.

Messieurs

The names mentioned are indeed worthy contenders. I personally would have to concur with Tony, that Eugene is a very strong candidate given his performance in the Russian Campaign.

<font color="gold">Général de Brigade Baron Greg Morgan, Comte de Gironde
2ème Brigade
3ème Division Cavalerie Légerè
IIIème Corps
l' Armée du Nord
