I just recieved the three Napoleonic BG games and in the process of installing and patching I encountered a problem with Prelude to Waterloo. When I install the game some small piece will not install and when I attempt to install the 16-bit patch, the process stops with an error message reading 'old file does not exist.'

The game works normally before the patch is attempted but will not work after this is done. Sorry if this is confusing, but if anyone has any advice in getting PTW up and running I'd appreciate it.

I am happy to report that the other two games were installed and patched problem free.

Check the name and path of the file(s) that did not install during the orginal game installation. You can copy off the CD and paste into the proper directory. Then reinstall the patches.
Good luck.

I have the US version and downloaded the correct patch. I think Ed is on the right track, I'm going to try your advice. Thank you.

Brad

Ed is right. It's the Readme file that needs to be manually copied from the disc to the parent directory of the game on your hard drive ie. C:\PTW

Then your patches will apply without problem

Brad,

You also need to install a patch that corrects a problem with the LOS in PTW. I'd send it to you, but it was one more thing I lost in my PC crash[xx(].

Thanks for the info Marechal Palomo. A club member has graciously offered to send his patch to me.

Also, how do you get the accent marks over letters when typing?! I've never figured it out and it looks like I'm going to need to know for this club! [:D]

I too have heard about this LOS patch. Where, or from whom, does one obtain it?

Send me an email to Mark and I will send you the file.

Compressed it is about 720kb.

It is a replacement LOS file for the Ligny module.
