Post subject: Cobexlaw Troubles

This was recently posted on, but I forgot the solution.

One of my officers writes:

My opponent and I were playing Cobexlaw's fine game of Leipzig, and got into about the 45th turn or so, twilight, when I got a message from him he couldn't open up the turn.
So he sent file back to me. I could open up the turn, and after the replay I was going to send the file back to him, but then I got an error message- Can't read file.

So, Seeing that the game has died, we have to take a draw. (we could go back two turns, I guess, a re do them, but it's a hell of a lot of work if this is going to break down again- and the game was going to be a draw anyway)

Anyone know how to fix this or why it happened?

Any help?? Thanks...

One of the first things to do when you have game file problems is to delete the PBEMAIL.XXX and .YYY files and the campaign.XXX and .YYY if in a campaign.

Second, the player that sent the turn should try HIS copy and see if it opens to his password. If so, close out the turn and resend to your opponent. (AND continue to delete the .XXX and .YYY files)

If that doesn't work, then the best bet is to replay the turn. Of course, we all know that replaying is usually a big NO NO, but in these cases it is possibly the only solution to continue the game.

Make sure BOTH players delete those pesky .XXX and .YYY files.

Ahhhh! Then he should search for a file called dxdiag.exe. It might be in c:/WINNT/SYSTEM32 folder.

Running this diagnostic program for DirectX might help point to what the problem is or just download the latest version of DirectX and that might solve the problem.
