My thoughts:

Situation: Austrian Hussar Unit captures Marshal Davout

It would be nice if the Engine did not remove unit, but gave the unit to the Austrians. The Leader then could only be moved with an Austrian unit. The reason, if the enemy happens to destroy unit, the Leader could be returned to French. Which happened. So in essence, the capturing unit has to get back behind its own lines or they may lose the prize.

Other option (more realistic) - all Corps leaders and Napoleon should have escort to protect them, so the cannot be scooped up without some resistence. Some games do, some do not.

The 1st option is more fun, as it is like capture the flag, the 2nd option could easily be implemented with fixing OOB.

Again, just my thoughts.

Well, killed is easy, they are dead.

Wounded, I would say it okay they get replaced imeadiately as they are not going to lead from the front, and would appoint someone right away as the game does.

But capturing a leader should not remove and replace him immediately, that would cause the breakdown of command as should be expected when the leader is captured. At least a couple of turns should go by before he is replaced to reflect the confusion as to what happened.

Escorts are in my Advance Naps OOB for Eckmuhl. You can find it on Rich H's SDC site. I used an article from EEL (Empires, Eagles and Lions) written by Jean Lochet on the French staffs of the Napoleonic era.

At the Corps level you get ...
État Major
32 Officiers d'Ordonnance (single light cav unit)
16 partie secrete (single light cav unit)
24 gendarmes (single light cav unit)

At the Division level you get ...
État Major
16 Officiers d'Ordonnance (single light cav unit)
12 gendarmes (single light cav unit)

At the Brigade level you get ...
8 Officiers d'Ordonnance (single light cav unit)

The gendarmes (Corps and Divsion levels) can be pooled together to protect the corps' trains.

The Officiers d'Ordonnance are the clerks, etc that make up the staff. They are not ADCs or couriers.

The Partie Secrete are officers used for long range recon.

The units will provide leaders a bit of protection, as leader's will pop out of melees, while by themselves they just get captured. They also give the player a recon element if they so choose to use them that way. They can't really be used in offensive combat, and they won't stand up to fire or melee very long, either.
----

I found staff levels for the Austrians as well.
Armeekorps

Generalstab
1 leader
16 Stabsoffiziere (light cavalry unit) - actual staff officers
71 Stabsreiter (light cavalry unit)
230 Stabskompanie (infantry)

The Austrian Army had extra troops designated for the guarding of HQ units: cavalry, and infantry.

At division level you get ...
8 Stabsoffiziere (light cavalry unit) - actual staff officers

At Brigade level there wasn't any, however. [:(]

There is plenty of information available for the other armies as well. If OOB creators would include the various miscellaneous units that accompany an army, then players may be able to use the army more realistically.
---

Either the La Battaille system, or From Valmy to Waterloo, or both had very nice time delay mechanisms to replace leaders. The FVTW rules had the replacement leader originate from the next level up the chain of command after the delay, so he still had to ride to where his new command was befor it was back under control.

Sheesh, I thought that this guy was the one that set up the entertainment for the troops! Ooops, that is what you meant by long range recon! He goes out and gathers in the supplies for the party!

Or is he also known as Commissar in the Russian army?[:D]
