 Post subject: Resolution of Fire
PostPosted: Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:58 am
I am trying to determine how morale checks are resolved.

In defensive fire, fire results appear to create results immediately. One unit fires, the target units either disorders or doesn't.

Offensive firing during a players movement phase doesn't seem to produce results until the end of the turn. If so, then are fire results cumulative in determining need for morale checks and morale results. For example, say 5 units fire on a defending unit. Each shot produces 5 separate instances of casualties. Are 5 separate morale checks performed? Or are the total casualties cumulative and a single morale check made at the end of the turn? And if a single check, are all modifiers cumulative such as enfilade fire, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Cumulative. Thus if a 500 man battalian takes a total of 300 losses in the turn then that is the basis for his morale check.

Thanks, Bill. I like the cumulative modifiers on my offensive turn.

Several more questions:

If I fire enfilade with no effect and fire from the front causing some casualties. Will the enfilade effect apply to the unit during the morale check?

If I fire first, cause casualties and then melee the unit will it pass the check in the condition it is in the end of phase i.e. disordered and with high fatigue rather than undisordered and low fatigue which it had before the melee but when the fire actually happened.

How is the flank morale modifier applied? I remember there was an explanation but can't find it in the manual.

Does detached status have any effect on the morale check after the enemy offensive fire. Or they are only important during the undisoder check?

Anton,

I try to bring fire on units that I melee after I melee them, especially if I lost the melee. It seems to cause an additional check, and I have seen some enemy units rout away after being fired on after winning a defensive melee. SO.... ????
