Officers of L'Armée du Rhin! In case you have ever felt tempted to try your hand at a little teaching at the Ecole de Mars, but thought you were not experienced enough, or the time investment would be too great, here is your chance ... the Ecole is in dire need of auxiliary instructors, as we tentatively call it, for lack of a more catchy name ... instructors "light" if you will. Basically opponents for cadets.

The way the training at the Ecole is now organized (the details are in the guidelines, available from the Ecole website at http://home.arcor.de/dierk_walter/NWC/EdM_start.htm), there is the traditional basic training where all the mundane details of game mechanics and tactics are covered. From the faculty side, that is the heavy lifting, and it is done by the core staff of instructors at the Ecole. However, after their basic training, in a second phase the cadets play a standard maneuver game against a different instructor. This game is played with Fog-of-War on and the cadet should try to win it. It should take place in a friendly atmosphere, and asking questions is encouraged. But the cadets in this phase are in an advanced stage and should already be well aware of all the fundamentals of gameplay. No actual teaching is required from the instructor in this second game.

So this is where the auxiliary instructors would come into play. All that is required is playing a game against the cadet and being available for his questions. Moderate time investment, no raw recruits, and maneuver points for both instructor and cadet (half the amount for an actual battle). Scenario selection at the instructor's discretion, but should be 10-25 turns and at least corps size per side, with all arms.

Anybody with rank of say major, some minutes of gaming time per day to spare, and the will to help the army get better educated and more confident junior officers can do this. Please consider helping us out and thus easing the burden on the regular instructors. Currently they often do a time-intensive basic training game and a second grade maneuver game side by side.

To remain strong and viable, l'Armée du Rhin needs your support, Gentlemen.

I must say that this is an invaluable service to the club, the AdR and la Grand Army as a whole. The three tiered instruction program seems to be working well and can use your support.

And to prevent trainer burn out we could certainly use some more people...the more people involved, the less work for each person... [:)]

I must say that in all of the club work I have done in these clubs that the training part was my most enjoyable.

Tournies are fun to put together.

Its fun to put up a division or corps page.

But helping someone get their feet under them in these games is a joy.

If you Frenchies have never trained anyone you are missing out on some real fun. Get an email out to Marechal Walter at your earliest convenience. You will never regret it. And as your student graduates and goes off into the fields you can always say that you made his road that much easier.

Speaking in this tone as this game engine IS one of the harder of the series to master or even be semi-competant at.

Hm, where all the volunteers rushing to the colours to support their army? Come on, this is a chance for everyone, nearly regardless of experience. Just playing games against cadets, that's all? [8)]

Thanks--you get a shot at our newly-minted lieutenants early enough. To make them ready for that, we need Bavarian, Saxon, Westphalian or Polish instructors.

Come on, Gentlemen ... it's easy and rewarding and you have the proud feeling that you are doing something to support your army. Our cadets need you. [8)]
