I am looking for books on Wagram and also the Peninsula Campaign. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In prepping for the Wagram playtest, I found Robert Epstein's "Napoleon's Last Victory and the Emergence of Modern War" very helpful. It's more of a look at the strategic campaign, as opposed to the battle itself, but that said, it was excellent.

So, what am I reading now?

Julian Paget's book on the Peninsula is a good read for starts. He takes a look at the campaigns from a bird's eye level and then zooms down to the battlefield to give you more detail.

Its a great primer on the Peninsular Campaigns.

Second, I just bought a new book on Wagram called "The Emperor's Last Victory" by Gunther Rothenberg. I havent read it yet but the author is a good source for fine books on the Austrians and French.

Epstein's book was used for my work on Eckmuhl and Wagram Campaigns. I also suggest you read James Arnold book on the later portion of the 1809 campaign, "Napoleon Conquers Austria" which is the sequel to "Crisis on the Danube" by the same author.

Hourtoulle has a nice book on Wagram. Mainly pictures but its called "Wagram the Apogee of the Empire."

Sir Charles Oman's 8 volumes of A History of the Peninsular War which I heartly recommend (if you have the time and money). Otherwise David Gates' one volume "A Spanish Ulcer, The History of the Peninsular War" Or Charles Esdaile's one volume " The Peninsular War: A New History " which is the most up-to-date work.

From the French point of view there is "Napoleons War in Spain: The French Peninsular Campaigns, 1807-1814" by J. Tranie and J-C Carmigniani from the notes and manuscripts of Commandant Henry Lachouque.

There also is "Wellingtons Peninsular Victories" by Michael Glover.
