My favorite book on Waterloo:The Waterloo Companion: The Complete Guide to History's Most Famous Land Battle by Mark Adkins

I know that Amazon has it. It's about $40.00 USD

John,

For Wagram, it really depends on what you want in a book. I tend to be more interested in the strategic aspects of a campaign and battle rather than individual unit actions, and on that level I'm very fond of

I did see that Rothenburg just did a book on Wagram... don't have it yet.

Waterloo... well, odd to say, that's not a battle that interests me all that much. My library is kind of Waterloo-less.

BTW: Is our turn with you?

I also like the Adkins book on Waterloo -- lots of detail for someone new to this topic.

The Osprey Campaign series are also easy reading with enough detail to be useful with the games. I have Waterloo 1815, Aspern & Wagram 1809, and Eggmuhl 1809 (which I assume is an alternate spelling).

Another Book, which is more for researching gaming details not history is Napoleons Campaigns in Miniature by Bruce Quarrie.

For pure reading, I enjoyed two novels - The Limits of Glory by McDonough -- a "killer angels" treatment of Waterloo. The Man Who Broke Napoleon's Codes by Urban -- sort of like the equivalent of figuring out how to gain the advantage with the HPS game engine.

John, are you easy in french ?
The most well studied serial books are : "les carnets de la campagne - waterloo 1815 by Bernard Coppens and Patrice Courcelle - Bruxelles".

If you're intersted, you can find below the link to a specialized library in Paris, which send its book everywhere. Its catalog is very impressive. (Books in french and english)

I bought there several times.

Outstanding and helpful, especially the discussion of myths and controversies; but the graphics were proof-read poorely. Don't rely on the graphical OOBs, especially, without checking an additional source: there are brigade numbers mixed up and such.

Any of the books in the Wagram game bibliography are good - some out of print (like Bowden's book).

I have Rothenberg's book and highly recommend it.

With Eagles to Glory gives you a good look at the Confed of Rhine and other German allies that were in Napoleon's Army of Germany.

Osprey series was very helpful in many cases in the game design - the OBs helped me with some of the commander's names and verify strengths.
