Gents,

The Company Level scenarios have been out for a while, from the Waterloo XP, so would like to know what y'all think of them? Are they enjoyable? Would you like to see similar inclusions of them in future titles? Or are they not worth your time...?

Thanks,
Rich

I have only played them solo and had a good time with them. I am considering posting for a game when a slot frees up.

Rich,
I am currently playing the Quatre Bras battle against Drew Stone. We are only 4 turns in so we have not really gotten in to it but so far it looks good. Drew stated that he thought it slowed the battle down a little bit and I think that it really reminds you of the imprtance of leaders and command. I am not sure how the cavalry will play out--- I need to experiment with forming squares etc. but the low stacking limit seems good.

I will definetly play more of these. The only draw back is for the large battles like WAterloo and Ligny, the number of counters is very high.

I would welcome the inclusion of more company level battles in other titles. I think that one thing they could really help with is rear guard actions where now it is hard for an outnumbered defender to avoid being wiped out. Also, I think company level actions wuold be good for the smaller opening battles of some campaigns and also for some of the smaller battles in the Peninsula and the early Italian campaigns.

thanks

I haven't had a chance to play one yet (I can only manage 1 or 2 games at a time) but I have thoroughly examined a few of them and played a few solo turns and intend to give one a try eventually. They look excellent and I would say they are a worthwhile inclusion for future games. One or two of the CCC members have expressed an interest in Waterloo because of the scale of these scenarios so anything that broadens the appeal of the game is good. Overall, Waterloo is an excellent game. All the effort that went into it is appreciated. Please pass that along to all who worked on it[:)]

[:)] I really enjoy the scale. Find it more enjoyable than the "normal" scale which I find is getting more of a semi-strategic feel, especially with the overly large maps that are produced.

There is some tinkering that needs to be done for play balance. I know one of the guys I play has some issues - and he will, touch wood, pop up here when he isn't so busy.

And going a couple of steps further...I wonder what a "squad battles" scale game would be like?

Will there be any future updates to Waterloo?? I have two requests for it if there will be one....

Other than that I really like the concept and think it looks good. I have yet to play a battle, but will try one soon I hope.

I would like to see it in future games. [:D]

I like the company level scenarios. They play much differently than the normal scenarios and give you a better feel for the time period.

I put up a webpage spelling out the various formations of the period. Probably missed one or two but hit on the most popular ones.

See:

http://www.fireandmelee.net/forms/forms.html

I have received alot of feedback from the Aderklaa Village scenario and find that its not worth my time to put these type scenarios together. The system doesnt portray this level very well. It was meant for battalian(inf)/squadron(cav) level mainly with the latter being more or less a change from battalian(inf)/regiment(cav) of the former games.

Thanks to those of you that provided feedback for Aderklaa.

For the same reason why I prefer the Napoleonic engine over the Early American Wars engine for accuracy in this regard I wont be putting any more company level scenarios together.

However, I wont be locking my OB file so you guys will be welcome to experiment with any future releases! There is no reason to limit creativity in this regard.

Hi Nik
I've popped in here between hangovers.

I've played several scenarios now. Mostly good. Historical La Haye Sainte isn't up to much. Hougomont needs some attention too I think - I've had melees against defenders fail despite odds of over 10-1; probably too many modifyers. Played it 3 times now. First was a British romp against Pete Dawson. Second against Nik (this time with me as French) seems to be going the same way. Third against Dean Beecham was a French victory but by a single point thanks to me losing several leaders otherwise it would have been a draw.

Certainly a different style of gameplay to the normal sized games and highly recommended.

Right, 9am, must be time for a drink.

I'm playing the Wavre scenario and the company level is what I am used to in the CCC. It helps because I have a lot to learn about these games and their rules versus what I have been playing in the EAW series, so the scale is one less thing to deal with.

It's been six months or so since the last post on this subject, so perhaps a few more of you have found time to try the company level scenarios. It would be useful to find out how popular these are to determine whether it's worthwhile including them in future titles and/or expansion packs. So, do you feel that the inclusion of company level material is:

1./ Important - good to have company level versions of battalion level scenarios, even the larger ones.
2./ Useful to include some, especially for any smaller scale actions.
3./ Unnecessary to include any company level material.

Please find time to reply to this poll, as your opinions matter and a lack of response will indicate a lack of interest in the creation of further scenarios at this scale.

Also, feel free to make suggestions and comments.
