Just saw this rather bland film on DVD.

Concerns Napoleon at St. Helena and to be blunt it sucks. The only interesting point I came across is a plot by the English to restore Napoleon to his throne as a buttress against Prussia...

In all my reading, I have never come across this idea before... interesting if true...

I've never seen that one (nor the movie, and you didn't exactly get me to go out and buy it) but in history of the Hapsburg Empire I have, it says that Metternich would have preferred Napoleon stay on his throne to ensure stability in France, at least into 1814.

Gary et all...

Nothing in this movie is really that good...

It touches on life at St. Helena and I mean just touches on it. The Governor is played well but some of the characterizations are just sad.

The little girl Napoleon befriended ( Betsy ) is made out to be in lust for the Emperor

Napoleon's English doctor is an Irish rebel and comes off as one who would prefer that Napoleon not leave St. Helena because he feels Napoleon is blood thirsty.

There is mention of Napoleon's illness but no cause is discussed ( we all know it was a result of poisoning by a Frenchman within Napoleon's court )

all in all a 2 out 10 for me.
