My opponent and I have completed several games in our current campaign. The French have arrived before Borodino(several times) and al we get is an announcement of victory/defeat at Borodino and move on to the next battle. We have tried sevral times now. What's up with this? [:(]

I'm the opponent.
Each scenario we have played we have had problems. I open his turn and I can't watch the replay. If I skip replay I get to see both sides, FOW has gone. So he replays and everything is fine second time around. Same every turn, every scenario. We have deleted all the xxx and yyy files, bto and btc files etc etc. every turn.
Finally we get to Borodino and whatever strategic options we choose we are sent to Tarutino without a battle.
I've had this problem with another opponent but against another opponent things have gone well, no problems whatsoever.

This is a good question for Rich Hamilton but may I make a recommendation - find the last good file and open it after you have delected these files:

pbemail.xxx
pbemail.yyy
campaign.xxx
campaign.yyy

Both of you should do this from time to time.

If that doesnt work then email Rich Hamilton via the HPS tech support email address which can be found at the HPS website.

Rich will report this to John Tiller and the Scenario Designer, Charlie Cutshall.

If you have been reading the boards we have had this happen in Wagram and Eckmuhl too. Its USUALLY associated with the files I list above.

One other thought:

Are you both playing with the same version of the game? Verson 1.03 is the latest.

Hi Bill
We are deleting all xxx and yyy files plus bto and btc files before we open each turn.
Ernie, I'm on 1.03 but I'll check my opponent is. I did have same problem however against Sam Dodson and he had 1.03.
Rich - file has just been sent to you, it's the last my opponent sent.

Regards

Andy

Hello everyone,

I had this same replay problem before (it was really embarrassing since my opponents were suspecting that I was tweeking with the file).

I tried reinstalling everything, deleting the all sorts of files (*.xxx, *.yyy etc.) but in fact, the problem was likely caused because I was clicking 'NO' when the program asked me if I wanted to see the replay. Now, I always select 'YES' but if I don't want to see it, I press the escape key.

I hope this will help!

Sorry, that was me. Is it wise to advertise you don't watch replays, given the shenanigans people can get up to if you're not watching?

Sir,

Don't tell anyone but in fact, I am hoping that those shenanigans people will rely on the expectation that I am not watching to commit themselves! [8D]

Many thanks for your concerns,

Hey, its no problem telling your opponent you DONT watch replays. That way he will never know when you DO decide to watch one!!! (sneaky eh?)

I note that a NIR replay used to take 20 minutes to view. And PTW longer. Who has all of that time? Now if you only play one or two games at a time like some I know then it makes sense.

I got so depressed watching replays (all of those dead guys of mine) that I quit watching them on a regular basis. Now I just review them if there is something I want to learn about an opponent.

And keeping them wondering when you WILL watch a replay keeps them from thinking that they can cross the open field and duck under cover without you noticing.

For some opponents I really enjoy watching a replay because I always learn something about them. Paco for instance or Jeff Bardon. Those guys I have to keep honest and watch the replay. Otherwise for an average opponent like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Billy Carter I rarely watch a replay.
