You have to remember BGG was the second game in the BG series and the first ACW game and came out in 1995. I would guess several of the designers had played the Richard Berg ACW boardgames. One of the reasons I bought BGG was it appeared to be similar to Berg's TSS, Bloody Shiloh and Gleam of Bayon...

The answer, IMHO, is the 1=100 men strength points. The 25-man increments did not start until Shiloh for the ACW games. So, with a loss of 1, that meant 100 men were eliminated for that shot. Of course, successful shots were harder to come by. Talonsoft upgraded BG2 Gettysburg to the 25-man incremen...

Mark Nelms and I played every scenario on the BG Gettysburg game. It was a lot of fun. I played every scenario on every one of those games (that are pictured on Blake's shelf) and had to change sides in the club in order to play them again from the Union side. At the time, the club recognized a Reb...

I bought it. I was disappointed with it as it was too easy to win [I didn't have the internet then and was unaware of Clubs like the ACWGC]. I also purchased Borodino after it to see if it was any better. It wasn't, but I did like how you detach skirmishers and deploy them as 'separate' units. I di...

How many of you purchased the original BG2 Gettysburg (1995). And if any here did, what was the strangest thing about it you can recall?

Column Melee House Rules If I had to guess, and this might be confirmed by some old timers like Ned Simms, DW Mallory, or Mark Nelms, but I bet that when the HPS version of the games was released that many people played the game in Turns. This is poorly named, I know! But in "Turns" each ...

You would not be able to alter the OOB unit order without breaking the scenario. It can be done, but it is complex and not easy to type all the instructions. You can also create or modify OOBs and use the editor to design scenarios from scratch.

Perhaps try Gettysburg 078, it also utilises the BIG Gettysburg map. Alternatively, you could play the campaign (a series of linked battles) in Campaign Gettysburg (click on 'cp_start' in the Campaign Gettysburg folder). You should also know that Campaign Gettysburg includes extensive designer note...

IMHO,
There are enough rules built into the code and PDT files to dissuade a player from wanting to make a night attack. I don't see any reason for house rules. With that said, I will always play with whatever rules my opponents wishes to use. Especially since I usually only play one game at a time. |

Even if there was an AI that could beat anyone on even terms, there is tremendous value in playing HTH (PBEM). You can't send a message to the AI and brag about you last cleaver move.

I have always preferred not to have prohibitions against any night action for reasons of historical accuracy. It happened a good deal more than we realize in the war (see below link). Question is, does the game engine penalize the combatants enough for being involved in such things? https://civilwa...

Thanks for the clarifications. The only house rule we discussed was limiting arty stacking to 6 per hex, unless it was a moving pass-through situation. However, I will check to make sure I didn't miss it. Only thing is my opponent is in a 12-hour time zone a head of me. Again thanks!
