Since the games are supposedly trying to simulate Civil War combat on a rather abstract level, in at least theory if you repeat the historical actions for both sides then the game should more or less repeat the historical result. No one ever really does this because you can read about the result but... |

If I am reading your post right it looked like you were missing the MDF on and ADF on combination, which is phased play with auto defense fire (Battleground style).

It is to some degree simulated. The Isolation Rule is suppose to reflect the tendancy of units cut off to surrender rather than fight to the death. The game just doesn't try to track the distribution between killed, wounded and captured. Since the game's time period isn't long enough for any of thes... |

Hmmm, lets see. There are 58 brigades in the Union army, they have at least 4 regiments in each brigade, that's over 240 regiments, and each regiment has ten companies, that's 2400 companies to move each turn...[xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(]

HPS calls it Turn Based (Manual Defeense Fire opition off, ADF on) but its really single phase (no separate phases for movement, fire and melee) as opposed to multiphase which is similar to our only choice in Battleground games. While Turn Based is fun to play you will find it is more appropriate to... |

The error you are getting "missing MSVCRT.DLL" is a little odd since this is a Microsoft provided DLL. Check your SYSTEM32 folder and see if its there. If it is you may need to register it. If its missing you might go to the Microsoft support site and see if you can find it for downloading. Interest... |

Wagons do serve a purpose and simulate a real situation. However, you are right, armies seldom ran out of ammo. This was primarially due to something rarely included in the game, the army supply train. At Gettysburg is was, in our terms, off map. Normally, the divisional wagons would draw fresh supp... |

If things are installed correctly your game should come up version 2.02 and you should have the following files in your main BGBR folder: BG_START.EXE This is the one that starts the game BGR.EXE This is the battle executable, ~594 KB file Inetwh32.dll This is the 32 bit support file, ~47 KB file Se... |

Do a "Save as" from "File" on browser and it will copy the whole page down to your HD. Includes some java code so I am not to sure how easy it will be to separate out the banner from the rest of the page. Have fun.[:)]

Unfortunately, the separate skirmish unit becomes to powerful, to mobile, and to effective. In the NGC they try to limit this by house rules but the skirmisher is still to powerful a unit. This is partially due to it becoming a small regiment able to fire, melee, etc. and more due to our god like ab... |

Simultaneous movement system would allow the addressing of a lot of "issues" with the current system but being in the process of trying to figure out how to make it work, it also introduces a lot of problems. The AI for the units would have to be a lot "smarter" then the current AI in order to deal ... |

I always liked the board game idea of a Pin result on moving units. Plays hell with the best laid plans of an attacker.[:D] And, probably reflects one of the problems Civil War commanders had when attacking. The tendancy of advancing troops to stop and return fire when fired upon rather than continu... |
