I had a similar problem once. Turns out my mailbox is only allowed 10
megs and I had about 9.9meg used. After pruning out the mailbox, it worked OK again.

Hi, Rich,
I don't know what that means, but is it something we need to watch
for in other games, or just Shiloh?

Hi, My two cents worth. I think the game works well both historically and playability-wise as is. Stonewall would never have been able to steamroll the XI Corps at Chancellorsville if his men kept disrupting in the woods. I get the impression that the Civil War formations were more flexible anyhow; ... |

I support the artillery supply wagons idea. Infantry supply wagons are certainly a limiting factor on infantry maneuver; I can't imagine artillery ammunition wagons moving faster than infantry wagons. I'm not sure where John Tiller got his figures for wagon movement, but wagons moving on a dirt road... |

Hi, Did a little playing around and found in Gettysburg that building a breastwork on top of a stone wall adds the breastwork benefit to the stone wall benefit. At Devil's Den, Confederate A-rated troops fired from two levels down (-40) at a Union unit in rough terrain (-30) behind a stone wall (-40... |

I think Bruce Catton was my favorite Civil War author, but I read his books a long time ago, when I was in high school. I don't know how they would stack up today. My favorite Civil War book is probably Coddington's The Gettysburg Campaign. Gettysburg is my favorite battle, and in my opinion no one ... |

Hi, Tony, I think your idea would make the single phase system a viable option again. It still wouldn't prevent the attacker from massing fire while the op fire might or might not be effective, but it would certainly prevent the blitzkriegs. For multiphase, I think it would tilt the balance too much... |

Hi, All, Just over at Matrix Games, and they have announced that they have obtained the rights to the old Talonsoft games. I'm not sure what they intend to do with them, but at least they are back in the hands of wargamers. Their address is: http://www.matrixgames.com/ MG Mike Mihalik 1/III/AoMiss/CSA |

To me, it is ridiculous that a routed unit moves at half the rate of an unrouted unit. You would think they would be running to get away. Also have a problem with units being reduced to one quarter melee strength because a few squads snuck up behind them and isolated them with ZOC, but that is a dif... |

I am 55. I was first interested in toy soldiers at an early age, but became interested in the ACW in 5th grade when as kids we actually played Civil War in the playground. Apparently there were some Civil War programs on TV in the early sixties when they were celebrating the centennial that caught k... |

Single phase is fun to play, but as implemented favors the tactical attacker, which isn't historical. I think the play balance in many scenarios is profoundly affected by the type of system you play, but many scenarios are unbalanced no matter which system you use. After playing the single phase sin... |

1. Adapt infantry formation change and op fire from single phase to multiphase.
2. Artillery ammo sytem change.
3. Artillery capture/recapture.

The main problem with single phase (what Gen Whitehead refers to as turn-based) is that the op fire is so unpredictable. I have had units march up to a stack of eight sections of artillery and take it out with the artillery only firing two or three times, none at point blank range. I have seen other... |

Hi, Al, You are right, of course, but the view I was trying to express was that if they pass they ought to remain in good order. My experience is that while flank morale modifier is a good thing (imho) on balance it isn't enough to make forming a solid line advantageous. If units adjacent to routing... |
