I think there were times Longstreet's performance was lackluster, such as any time he operated independently. But I don't think Gettysburg was one of them. Lee's plan for the 2nd day was for McLaws to form his division perpendicular to Emmitsburg Pike and attack down the road. This plan resulted fro...

I believe the Official Military Atlas Bill and Robert are talking about is a reprint of the original companion atlas to the Official Records. I believe it is one of the best bargains ever. I originally bought a reprint back in the 70's that cost me $65, and I thought it was a bargain at that price. ...

Personally, I hope to see the day when there are no zones of control. For any unit. Of course, I am also hoping for preplotted simultaneous moves. What a dreamer!

As I recall, once you capture the ammo it is yours for the scenario. If the enemy recaptures the gun, they don't get the ammo back. If the gun is re-recaptured by you, you don't get any more ammo.

Hi, Lieutenant, The short answer is "Yes they Can!" If you play the WWII games, there is some mechanism in the game where the road can support only a certain number of strength factors at road movement, after which succeeding units move at the cost of terrain. Not sure how it works, or how much trou...

There is a Civil War boardgame that has been around awhile named For the People. I am considering getting this for a friend for Christmas. Anyone ever play it? It was originally by Avalon Hill.

I have to say I use phased play regularly and have not had a problem. I wonder what causes the malfunction.

I am currently reading a most excellent book, "No Quarter", by Richard Slotkin, about the Battle of the Crater. The tactical detail is on a par with Harry Pfanz's Gettysburg books, and I have seen no better analysis of the personalities involved in a battle. I strongly recommend it. MG Mike Mihalik ...

Hi, Lieutenant, Heard good things about Mad Minute, but I don't play rts. Thanks for the heads up on the new game. The graphics depicted in the video sure look attractive. Don't know why the Rebs aren't behind the fence instead of in front of it. They could save ten percent of their casualties.[:D] ...

Hi, Colonel, The penalty doesn't register until the beginning of your next turn. If you moved a unit during a night turn, even just to change facing or deploy skirmishers, and the unit doesn't show 50 more points of fatigue at the beginning of your next turn, then something is wrong and you can foll...

Lee certainly had Scott's confidence! McDowell's failure at Manassas wasn't really his fault; Patterson didn't exert any pressure on Johnston, who was able to reinforce Beauregard and thereby win the day. Had Lee failed under similar circumstances, I'm sure he still would have enjoyed the confidence...
