Anyone who's studied or read about Civil War-era combat understands that in the majority of cases it was the owning side that spiked their artillery under circumstances of imminent capture, provided that they had both the time and method available. (That method usually involve hammering a rat... |

The problem can be corrected by first adjusting the right-hand page slider bar downwards to allow enough room for the drop-down menu to be completely readable. You can then easily make your selection.

Well, Nick Kunz (Warbison) and Jefferson H. Davis (Hank Smith) knew what I was talking about and correctly identified the older game as Sierra's Civil War Generals II! And Larry Kocher (Caliban) described SSG's Carriers at War as another game that incorporated graphical night effects. Mike Mihalik w... |

Well, I thought I ought to get this one out there with all of the rest, just so I could be considered as a real, all-around complainer! Plus its something I've been thinking about for quite a while now anyway. Ever wished for the mapboard to go slightly dark at dusk</font id=... |

So, OK! It looks like we've got only two choices here for the moment. Either we play with the ON MAP RESULTS option "ON," and put up with those battle replays being too fast, or we play with the ON MAP RESULTS option "OFF," and deal with all the tedious clicking of pop-up windows! Let's consider thi... |

Do you know of any way in the HPS system to slow the replay or to view it on a step-by-step basis, so that one can more easily observe and comprehend the actions that transpired in your opponent's turn? I find the replay engine moves much too quickly! Anyone else out there with the same problem? Lt.... |

I suppose that most (some?) players in this club may take the time to call up a manual, shadow version of the game upon which they are to embark in order to conduct what would be called, preliminary intelligence. By doing so they can comfortably make themselves aware of the starting positions... |

Thanks for promising the fix, Rich! I am most appreciative. "Captured, non-spiked, artillery units count full value towards victory conditions, while spiked captured artillery counts half value." This item explanantion from the Artillery Capture Rule, which Bill correctly quoted, seems to cause some... |

I think the capture rule is immaterial to the question of whether spiked artillery units should be able to act as spotters for the hex they occupy! In my mind, other than when actually captured or re-captured, a spiked unit would be a completely abandoned unit. Who's left to see anything at all? If ... |

I'd like to make an update on this spiked gun thing, which I've been watching very closely in my subsequent games. It is true that a spiked artillery unit by itself will not provide the original, owning player with any spotting capability; except in one case! That case is when any opponent's ... |

Can anyone tell me if spiked artillery in the HPS games retain their ability to spot enemy units? Are not spiked guns, no matter who does the spiking, to be considered essentially abandoned?
