And both of those regiments are already part of Longstreet's and Early's brigades. Rich Walker already had "detached" them to the other commands. So no need to build another OB file. So just to clarify: Holmes' brigade remained on the right and never engaged. Two of his regiments did bein...

That sounds a good way to avoid the 'mixed' status yet still represent where they were in the battle. I didn't research Miles but Gottfried's book has Holmes arriving on July 20. "[The march commenced on July 18 with Holmes' Brigade] reaching their destination on the morning of July 20. the Cre...

Nice input, guys. Thanks. Looks like Ewell was busy marching to and fro and could easily be taken out of the game while Holmes never was engaged making his status similar to Miles. If we want to play a "Historical" scenario then we should be fair to the Union. Removing those two brigades ...

I agree, Holmes did not engage as a brigade during the battle. I checked using The Maps of First Bull Run, Bradley M. Gottfried . On 18 July Holmes was ordered to march to Manassas Junction. They reached their destination on 20 July, 2nd Tenn., (1st Ark. and Walker's battery) positioning themselves ...

Had such a conflict occurred I suspect a good number of former Confederates may well have fought side by side with their former foe. As it was, Americans remained busy fighting 'at home' in the American Indian Wars. Needless to say, a good number of former Confederates were part of the US army durin...

LOL, I should have watched Blake's video rather than the WDS one. Some of the above questions are answered. I now understand what is happening with scheduled reinforcements and FoW and some other things such as LoS changes. I'm not happy with them, but I understand them better now. Am I "thrill...

I'm fairly certain but would like some clarification. Is it correct to say that all the changes made in v4.03 remain in v4.04 with the main difference being the following one? "Adjustment to melee modifiers. If there are defending units that have not fired in the current turn, but the units are...

Paul, would you like to try your hand at the head of the Confederate army against a live opponent? Certainly not! As I said above: " I suspect playing as the Union would be very easy indeed." Doing so against a human opponent as the Union would be a recipe for disaster. Walloping the AI i...

I would be available to playtest titles in most ACW titles. I would do so in the hope that any previous anomalies that can cause an unbalance in scenarios could be avoided. [In deference to Mike's comment, I consider that the original ratings for Shiloh were valid in view of achieving a realistic hi...

We are only on Episode 3 and look where we are  ..............it's gonna be a long hard series ! It's time to unsheathe your sword General. A Yankee has accused your army of fleeing the field, "burning supplies, spiking guns, and not stopping until they reached their old camps" and...

From Mike's earlier link regarding Shiloh: "All morning, Beauregard hoped that the arrival of 20,000 men under the command of Brigadier General Earl Van Dorn would change the battle momentum back to favoring the Confederates. He was eventually notified that Van Dorn was still far away, so prepa...

Thanks Paul, I believe we actually discussed this previously, I had quite forgotten tbh. I know we did discuss other games in general a while ago but I had only just purchased Strategic Command ACW so I hadn't had time to assess it. I originally had a lot of fun playing around with it. I haven't pl...

It appears to me Blake's opinion is that combat experience automatically makes a unit better than one without that experience. Needless to say, I disagree. Combat experience, generally speaking, does make a combat unit "better." If I am going into a combat zone and I can choose between ha...

I have Strategic Command - ACW. It's an okay game. I enjoyed it a fair bit at first. It's a fairly abstract reflection of the Civil War and thus is a game rather than a simulation. Researching technologies and managing Indians helps make it interesting. I've only played as the CSA and after playing ...

Yes, I think we may have to agree to disagree. I generally think that the designer has rated leaders and units based upon their performance 'on the day' rather than on 'past performance'. I think that is the correct way to do it. Past performance can never guarantee what that performance will be tom...
