It is an interesting question though. It's not that important or game-changing but it is a head-scratcher. Troops fired upon do have to "roll the die" and that might be considered as movement in some way. If the loss was 1 it would be considered a "non-resting turn." But if the ...

If your stationary units get fired at but take no losses are they able to recover fatigue? I've always wondered that. I often have a lot of extra ammo to use and if I can keep the enemy from recovering fatigue in some way at a range of 20 then it might be worth it. Ahhh, the luxury of playing as th...

Hmm, no-one seems able or willing to answer so, in the interests of further discussion, I will venture the answer. It was before my time, but a man called Don Adams created the old DoR and I believe this thread ( https://www.wargame.ch/board/acwgc/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7272 ) shows when the first ...

The AI is coming as long as time marches on. It took time but Garry Kasparov did lose to a computer. As for the club I would think that also like chess playing the computer/AI has it's place but one would still like to test their skills against a human opponent. As to Matt Clausen comments, I would...

I'm glad you mentioned Paddy Griffith. I have the book you mentioned as well as the more detailed Battle Tactics in the Civil War . He provides excellent analysis in both of Civil War battle tactics. I suspect that if you increase the 4% to 11% yet provide extra supply wagons you will end up with th...

"My main thesis is that there are too many casualties in the games." I've generally justified that in my own mind in that casualties do not just represent the killed/wounded/captured but also include 'those who have lost the will to fight'. They are no longer effective units and are there...

I think part of the fun is getting to know the people you are playing against. I know some of the kids today are getting their relationship time from Chat GPT but I still prefer a real person. Over the years I have gotten to know a lot of folks from all around the world in the various clubs and gam...

A great response from Karl to which I agree. I would add the following two comments. Network Play The games do seem to provide an opportunity for real time communication between players, see User Manual 6.2 Network Play (p64). I've never used it so cannot comment any further. You could also consider...

I bought it. I was disappointed with it as it was too easy to win [I didn't have the internet then and was unaware of Clubs like the ACWGC]. I also purchased Borodino after it to see if it was any better. It wasn't, but I did like how you detach skirmishers and deploy them as 'separate' units. I di...

Thanks for those responses on the missing scenarios. As it appears that they are generally variations on a theme with "different arrival times and locations" there are probably few, if any, truly missing scenarios. I appreciate learning how to open individual scenarios from the campaigns. ...

Wittenberg used to have an excellent blog 'Rantings of a Civil War Historian' (https://civilwarcavalry.com). Unfortunately, that site doesn't work properly anymore [probably due to Wittenberg's passing earlier this year]. However, after a lot of fiddling around I was finally able to access the story...

Perhaps try Gettysburg 078, it also utilises the BIG Gettysburg map. Alternatively, you could play the campaign (a series of linked battles) in Campaign Gettysburg (click on 'cp_start' in the Campaign Gettysburg folder). You should also know that Campaign Gettysburg includes extensive designer notes...

IMHO, There are enough rules built into the code and PDT files to dissuade a player from wanting to make a night attack. I don't see any reason for house rules. With that said, I will always play with whatever rules my opponents wishes to use. Especially since I usually only play one game at a time...

@Blake LOL, I can't be off researching the lot of them! Still, as I still have The Maps of Gettysburg next to me I can address that one. On Culp's Hill it says: Commands rang out: "Forward--guide center!" The time was approaching 7:00 p.m. From my earlier research sunset on 2 July 1863 at ...
