Richard, Such a familiar story. My gateway drug....er game was Kriegspiel then D-Day, Afrika Korps, Battle of Bulge and Russian Campaign. Later on Wooden Ships & Iron Men, Panzer Blitz and Squad Leader. Just now I'm starting a game of Afrika Korps on Vassal. Let me know if you're ever interested...

Richard,

Welcome to the club. I only joined a few months ago and I've found it be very enjoyable. I'm wondering what your favorite games were back in the 80's and if you still ever hanker to play them.

Regards

Chris, Welcome to the club. I'm likewise fairly new here as well. Our stories are very similar with regards to gaming in the 70's leaving and returning to the hobby. It did take a bit of time to gather in the mechanics and the system for these WDS titles but it is certainly attainable. Personally, I...

All, I need to apologize to Pat and KCharles. I don't check this thread on the regular and in addition I can't figure out how to get notifications to my email for either replies to a thread I'm "watching" or to DM's in general. Communication is important to me as it shows respect and I hav...

All, I am of the opinion that Avalon Hill was kind of the Forefather or founder of our war gaming hobby. I was a teenager when I received my first copy of "The General" back in the 70's. If you are interested (and some of you probably already knew this) here is every copy in PDF: https://w...

You can do that now with the record feature. Under the Mode drop down, select "record" When finished, open any scenario, then under file, select replay then select the desired BTR file. This will work for a PBeM game? When I try to select "record" with PBeM mode I get an error m...

Having played a few PBeM games now I have a great desire to review the battle from beginning to end with a God's eye view. If the program could somehow store the replays over time and then when the game concluded produce a continuous replay with no FOW from start to finish. To be able to see the ebb...

Mathias, Welcome to the club. As a recent recruit myself I can tell you I've had nothing but fun in this community. I lived in Kitzingen am Main for a couple years back in the 80's. I also enjoy Gary Grigsby's games. I have WitP AE but I've never really dug down into it. However, I've played quite a...

Blake, Wow. Just wow!! So impressive that you were able to dig this out. However, I am not sure I can agree that it doesn't affect anything. I mean the way I read the rules those soldiers should be undisrupted. Anyways I think I'll send it over to WDS and see what they say. Still.......very impressi...

Here's the situation: disrupted question.jpg It is the start of my turn and these two units are disrupted. There are led by D D Johnson from the red arrow. He is in command range of those two units. He currently has a buffed command rating of A leader command rating.png The rule is as follows: disru...

Don't disagree in general Paul. However, Kasparov didn't lose to AI he lost to brut force computing. Language, syntax, grammar are all things with probably uncountable possibilities and combinations, yet AI jumped to the fore with chatbots. Thinking of an AI capable of managing a tactical level warg...

The AI is coming as long as time marches on. It took time but Garry Kasparov did lose to a computer. As for the club I would think that also like chess playing the computer/AI has it's place but one would still like to test their skills against a human opponent. As to Matt Clausen comments, I would ...

I'm in the Union army but happy for a maneuver just the same. I have Antietam, Corinth, Gettysburg, Shenandoah and Shiloh. Since I'm a noob I haven't developed any preferences for rules or such so happy to go with the flow. Please email me at loudscott at gmail dot com.

Regards,
