In your opinion, on each side, who was the best general that most people (aside from Civil War Buffs) haven't ever heard of? Of course, everyone has heard of Lee and Jackson, Grant and Sherman and the like. Even Forrest is reasonably well known. My picks: Union: Curtis. I admit, beating up on Van Do... |

Probably the best choice would have been Richard Taylor. Of course, he'd been "in the middle of nowhere" for a considerable period.

1) Yes (gotta get my Bull Run fix somehow [:D]) 2) No 3) All of them Note: other than Bull Run, all of my current games are in HPS... though I might play Antietam or Chickamauga on occasion. I imagine when/if those games come out in HPS versions, my BG disks will be set aside. Brig. General Gary McC... |

Ozark is my favorite game of the ACW games, but 1776 is by farthe best value of the games listed. Not counting add ons, 1776 gives you: Brandywine, Monmouth, Valley Forge (hypo), Yorktown (hypo), Bunker Hill, Cowpens, Germantown, First and Second Saratoga, Guilford Courthouse... and that's ju... |

Of course, the downside is that you can still figure it all out. Pea Ridge is my favorite campaign, and with the small size, I've played it through a number of times, and I've seen just about every major possibility. Thus, when I open the battle of Pea Ridge within the campaign, I just keep an eye ou... |

I've not messed with gmail, but I've been using Yahoo Mail for years, and have had no problems with using it to play games (half my games are on it, half are on my home account), so I find it to be a fully acceptable setup. Not saying it's better than gmail, just that I myself like it. Brig. General... |

But, even doing that only gets you so much. If there is shootin going on, it works, but if you are sitting there, waiting for that one moving unit to scoot through your LOS so you know where the enemies main effort is...

The thing is, they couldn't necessarily limber up and get out of town very quickly. Generally, if infantry took a gun crew under fire, the first thing to get shot was the horses. If there was enough manpower, they could try to move the things without the animals, or all of them, but that would be sl... |

While it would still be an abstraction, I think an appropriate solution would be to go to "two" steps. First step would be that the guns are given permanent D Status. That would reflect the loss of crewmen, horses and the like. They could still fire, but at reduced efficiency, and are less mobile. (... |

Waves the Ozark Flag [:D] While they are smaller battle, Pea Ridge and Prarie Grove are my two favorite scenarios in any of these games, especially Pea Ridge. The Mad Scramble! Good sized map for the forces involved, lots of covered terrain, and the ultimate question "Where in creation are those reb... |

Capt. Weber, Welcome Back [:D] Actually, the Battleground games are still being played. There are some players who will play one, and some who will play the HPS. Also, there is no HPS equivalent to Shiloh, Antietam, Bull Run, or Chickamauga, so if you wish to play those battles, your only choice is ... |

Well, Pea Ridge was, if anything a Strategic Flank March. Maybe a map the size of the monster Gettys map would have had all of Van Dorn's route, but not even the PR map (which is quite large itself) has it. Anyway, Van Dorn not only outmarched his small arms ammo, but the whole thing, even his arty ... |
