General Hulinsky <salute>

Suh, my compliments! I thank you for your trust and confidence and will faithfully carry out my new duties to see that the Army of the Mississippi remains the best in the Confederate States Army.

I'd like to thank General Tim Miller for his leadership and guidance while in command. I hope to perform in the same excellent manner as he.

Highest regards,

Lt General Hebert,
Neal,

I am most confident that you will perform your duties as the new Commander of the Army of the Mississippi in outstanding fashion!

But if for some reason you should stumble... just know that the Western Theater Commander has the most menacing whip I've ever seen. I once saw him turn it loose on a recalcitrant mule that was supposed to be pulling an artillery caisson. It wasn't something that anyone under the age of 40 should see. I still have nightmares about it!

Ah yes. The recalcitrant mule incident of '61. It began innocently enough.

Mule complained to me on a trek over the Allegheny mountains: "I'm a fighting mule! What is this pulling wagons?"

Hoping to distract the poor creature from his labors I suggested we discuss TV shows from the 50's.

Funniest comedy? I ventured "I Love Lucy". His response: "Hee Haw".

Best drama? I proposed "Highway Patrol". His response: "Hee Haw".

"You must be a stupid mule!" I said, "Let me check your tags and see if you were captured from the North".

At that point he dug in his heels and just would not move. "C'mon" I said "you're holding up the whole train."

Had to give that mule a terrible tongue lashing. A whip of sorts - but ever so humane.

<salute!>

Colonel Lane,
Mark,

It must be a much kinder & gentler Army now... because that's not how I recall that particular incident. I distinctly recall images of blood being splattered everywhere!

But then I might be confusing things with the time Lt General Hebert was caught cavorting with some Senator's wives in Washington shortly before the war!

Ah that explains it - I always knew that General Hebert's long ears were going to get him into trouble.
