Claude - please set up a drinking table for Fld. Lt. Lane. He has just joined us from VMI and from what I have heard we have a real rocket on our hands. Gen. Strickler - Suh - please if you so imbibe and get yourself in a miseraboe way - refrain from throwing up on my boots or the new Fld. Lt.'s boots. All are welcome to join us.

Good sirs,

"Sweet home Alabama; Where the skies are so blue;
Sweet home Alabama; Lord I'm coming home to you..."

Let us this night tell tall tales and watch our spirits soar
for tomorrow there are trumpets and the sounds of war

Welcome Suh - I hope the Tavern suits you Suh. We have some really fine whiskey in these parts and maybe we can get ole Claude to git some out here right now.
Claude - fetch the REALLY REALLY good stuff. If you see Gen. Blake show up then put the good stuff away until you know - he gets a bit sleepyy and tips over. Now on to telling some tall tales.

Now Sirs,

I see that we are all together as a band of brothers in arms.
Stop looking at the barmaid, forget her winsome charms
There's a story for the telling if 'ye have a taste for yarns.

Now in the civil war there were two generals you see,
One was James H Lane, hailed from Indianee
Fought in blue. Brigadier General Blue,
and Yes, its true ... he was a Yankee.

Try to forget James H Lane? You can't if you're a reb.
A raider at heart, not an honorable gent. His men he led
To the massacre at Oceola. He burned the town then fled.

That would be a name, if you were a Lane
No one would want, 'cept he was insane.
And that's what happened to 'ol James Lane
He put a bullet in his own head...or so they said.

Good thing is, this story does ends well,
cause there was another Lane.. pray tell?

Be patient, be patient. Bar tender!
Can't you see the tongues are dry!
On the double! No whos or whens or why!

Yes, there was a Lane who fought for Dixie
'Little Jim they called him. No pixie was he
Bullets couldn't keep him down, not three
Wounded aplenty but no lack of fight was 'Little Jim

He saw Seven Days, Antietam, Bull Run,
At Gettysburg he lost half his brigade, brave men
Then Overland, Cold Harbor, more war till the end

Sirs! I give you 'Little Jim! Now he was a Lane,
The right kind of Lane, I'm proud to call him kin!
