HPS Campaign Peninsula Historical Weather Mod
January 18, 2015

IF YOU PLAY PBEM BOTH PLAYERS MUST HAVE THE MOD INSTALLED!! Also, if you log in the game at the ACWGC website, just use the corresponding stock (non-weather variant) name of the scenario and add "weather variant" to your comment section.

This Mod creates a more realistic daily weather pattern based on Ken Miller's gradual dawn/dusk visibility weather files for the HPS Civil War games. Now, in addition to Ken's mod, the historical weather patterns for the Virginian Peninsula are included for every day of the Seven Pines (May 31-June 1, 1862) and Seven Days (June 25-July 1, 1862) campaigns and scenarios (including the fictional battles for Richmond in early July, 1862)

Every single Campaign and standard scenario now has a corresponding weather variant. None of the stock files will be overwritten with this mod, you will still be able to play the old scenarios if you wish. You will also see new Campaign games that use the weather patterns (designated by the word “Weather” in the Campaign name). The stand alone scenarios have a “_W” at the end of the scenario name and “Weather Variant” at the end of the scenario description.

Various levels of rain, mud, and mist will make their appearance during those periods of the campaigns that have documentation or meteorlogical evidence supporting it's occurrence. The excellent "Civil War Weather in Virginia" by Robert K. Krick provided the vast majority of data for preparing this mod.

As an added feature, the effect on movement, artillery, and combat is now displayed, respectively, on the bottom of the game screen in brackets "[ ]" when the game is effected by inclement weather.

The most significant weather event during this time period on the Peninsula were the heavy rains in May, which caused moderate flooding of the Chickahominy and other water features in the area. This rain event continued through the morning of May 31, the first day of the Seven Pines battles. As a result, you will experience mud and more persistent misty conditions on the first day, with conditions gradually improving through June 1.

I have downloaded both the Ozark and Peninsula weather mods. The Ozark works fine but I get an Error Reading Scenario message when trying the Peninsula mods. I even tried reinstalling Peninsula and I get the same results. I am applying the mod after the necessary HPS updates.
