I also am a long time member and am truly grateful I found the ACWGC way back in 2005. I remember buying HPS's Peninsula six months or so earlier and thinking how cool it was playing the game on a computer. I had owned a pretty complex board game "Battle of Gettysburg" back in my college days in the late '70's, and while it was a great game, having to manually track results (and keeping the counters on the board in a college dorm room over a multi day battle) was a royal pain in the rear. Anyways, I got to the point with Peninsula where I could literally wipe out the yankee army commanded by the AI, so I thought I was pretty hot stuff. I then discovered the ACWGC, joined, and started playing real opponents - and discovered pretty quickly that: 1) I was not such hot stuff; and 2) the AI needed some real work.

I also want to thank all those that put in the time running the club, keeping the website going, organizing and administering the tournaments, etc etc., both currently and those in the past that are no longer with us. As they used to say from the Hee Haw cornfield: SALUTE!

Gentlemen's,

I thank those who have made this club work since its creation and those who have taken over.
A round of cognac for the older ones.
Another for the others and see you in twenty five years for the fiftieth anniversary.

Regards,

Brig. Gen Patrick Hollevoet

Great thread, Gents. I joined in the early 2000's. I was thrilled to find the Talonsoft games as a college freshman in the late 90s, then even more thrilled to find this club where I could match wits and volleys with a bunch of excellent opponents. Twenty years in (or so), and I'm still enjoying firing up a new scenario or campaign when I get the chance. Thanks to all who have made this club what it is and to all my past opponents. I feel very fortunate to share this pastime with you all.
