I have noticed recently that when a game file is opened from the selection screen, sometimes the map view scrolls to the centred hot-spot from the map edge...and sometimes it 'jumps' immediately to the hot spot. Does anyone understand how this is determined and if the setting can be changed?
My system is a reasonable spec and and well capable of running these games, but on some of the bigger maps, it can take 20 seconds or more to scroll all the way to the start position simply because of the map size and the speed of the screen scrolling. Not exactly a problem, just annoying, especially as on some of the games it does just 'jump' straight to the hot spot. For example: Gettysburg, Atlanta and Antietam seem to be 'scrollers' whilst Chickamauga, Corinth and Peninsula seem to be 'jumpers'.
I thought perhaps the 'alternative scrolling' feature on the settings menu was the answer...but it does not seem to be the case.

On my system the alternative scrolling makes the 2d maps scroll very slowly, which is frustrating for the games which reset to this option every turn so you have to put up with the slow scrolling during replays unless you turn off the smooth scrolling option. I would have thought that jumping to the hotspot had something to do with the smooth scroll option being off.

D'oh! [:I] Yes, thank-you Gen. Barlow. It was right there in front of me in the help file under the settings menu description. Smooth scroll is the reponsible factor. It seems I have a right mix of settings across my various games: A number of combinations of Alternative scrolling on/off, Smooth scroll on/off and Auto-scroll on/off resulting in a different game experience across the different games. I'm off to set everything to a standard right now!
