General Sands,
Our original plan was to take a paddlewheel cruise. When we started researching them, however, we decided to take a barge instead (see
www.riverbarge.com). On the barge, every cabin has a bathtub (instead of just a shower), all of the passenger cabins face outside, and half the cabins have balconies (which we wanted). The paddlewheelers have very few comparable cabins, and those cost over twice as much as the barge.
If we're disappointed, we can always take a paddlewheeler NEXT time! [:D]
The really silly thing (at least according to all my friends!) is we're DRIVING from Missouri down to New Orleans, taking a 5-day round trip cruise up and down the Mississippi, then DRIVING back to Missouri. Again, our first thought was to catch a boat in Memphis or even St. Louis and cruise down to New Orleans (or start in New Orleans and cruise up), but either way we'd have had to fly for one one leg of the journey. This way, we can enjoy sights along the way, on our own schedule.
I'll make a full report on my return.
(Well, maybe not a FULL report -- We wouldn't want the tavern to lose it's "Family" rating [;)] !)
Your humble servant,
LGen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory
