Yeah Ken, traffic's an area where DC can definitely improve.

Hell, we're number 2 in the nation, there's no reason in the world we we can't focus and take that number one spot from LA.

Good Cripe...how many darn people commute that's nuts?? Lol...I think were getting all the highway money up here in New York States than you guys are getting..lol...their always doing work on our stuff...but yet we are not that many cities congested all in a small area as that. High traffic time, takes me..eh...1/2 hr tops to get roughly 30 miles...of course were not as big and condensed as VA, but our traffic infrastructure is quite well..right Dale?? [:D][:D] Lol..see if he answers.

I guess I'm in for a shock if I plan on workin' down there...ehh.

Question though, is it better to live in Maryland and come into Washington, or to come from the south of it, or it just does not matter. What about Armtrak from say Delaware, or across the Chesapeake Bay?? As soon as I am done with school, I am moving away to find a job and I would like to know what things are like in that area.

Sir:

I moved from Chantilly to Fredericksburg in 1993 because I couldn't take all the traffic everyday. You couldn't go anywhere without sitting in traffic -- even in the evenings or on Sundays. Be prepared for home prices in the $500,000 range. More if you want a nice neighborhood. Somewhat lower prices can be found in western Prince William County or southwest down route 29. Forget about Loudon County -- prices there are already beyond belief. Some people commute from Front Royal.

Good luck.

To think, in 1862 Johnston "rushed" his army by train to reach Manassas from the same area as some people are now "living" just to "commute" an even longer distance into D.C.

My 30-45 trip to work in the mornings isn't so bad for 16 miles, of course, it takes an hour going home in the afternoons to go the same distance - if it isn't raining and there are no major traffic accidents on one of the three roads that travel east-west or north-south in this crazy little city of Jacksonville. (You'd think a city on the coast of Florida would have more than 3 (THREE!) ways to get away from the Beach if a hurricane got too close, but no... ) But I digress...

My father spent his late teens/early 20's in Manassas and didn't hardly recognize the place last time we were all up that way about 10 years ago, I'm sure it is even worse now.

Thanks for all your responses guys. I'm now excited and terrified in about equal measures. I'll try and find some hip armour as they're shooting wallet piercing ammo.
