<br />ACW BG games only have one 3D mode. HPS games have two 3D modes.

Actually, the BG games have exactly the same number and kind of views as the HPS games. Suggest you have a look at one. [:)]

Your right as usual General, my apologies.

But, the level of detail is very different. In the HPS series, 3D normal shows alot more detail than the BG 3D normal. And the same is true for the 3D zoom out. In the BG series, you can hardly tell what is what with 3D zoom out. The HPS series is much more clear and shows much more detail for individual units. Agree???

It depends on what you want to see in 3D. It's the old conflict between "miniatures" look and a more realistic ground scale. In BG, the troops are rather small in the hex, thus you can see very little of the individual soldier.

In HPS, the troops are larger, you see more uniform detail, but they appear out of proportion to the terrain details.

It's more extreme in the HPS Nappy games:

The radically opposite solution is this here (by Rolf Hall):

Personally, I can live with either - I like the uniform detail of the minuatures look and I like the more realistic ground scale of the smaller units.

On the other hand, units aside, in my opinion the BG games had a much more animated, nicer look to the landscape on their maps. The HPS maps, made of identical tiles, are a bit sterile and empty. Of course, the HPS look can be improved. This is standard HPS (Nappy, from Wagram):

Compare with these user mods which make the landscape appear smoother and more natural, in my opinion:

BGC however even managed to make the ugly vertical edges of the tiles, visible on elevation changes, disappear:

So for me the BG maps still have the best look.

And then there are of course the little oddities that you will never see on HPS maps. [;)]
