If the Confederacy had won their independence, where would Jefferson Davis have been seated at his first White House state dinner? Would it be to Lincoln's right or Lincoln's left or as far away from Lincoln as Abe could get him? What would Robert E. Lee have done with all those soldiers buried on his front lawn? Lt Gen Ned Simms 1/1/VIII/AoS/USA Blood 'n Guts hisself, a land lovin' pirate. Show me some arty tubes and we'll charge 'em. |

Had the Confederacy gained independence, I doubt that their leaders would have been invited to the White House to eat. Lee's Arlington estate would probably have been entrenched against the recent enemies across the river. I doubt if anyone would have lived there again, whatever the outcome. Sincerely, Brig Gen Dwight McBride V Corps/AOP/USA |
