The New York Times has a very interesting article on the reopening of the Gettysburg Cyclorama after a hiatus of five years. It will open 26 September. Here is a link to the article. You might have to sign up to read it, but it is free.

Ah yes the cyclorama and the electric map were the highlights of my boyhood trips to Gettysburg. I didn't realize it had been closed for five years. Glad it is being refurbished. Thanks for the post Mike, takes me back to some very happy times.[^]

DITTO but it was about 20 years ago for me and my kids were 11-6 I believe. As my children would say 'If I see one more cornfield I'm going to..." and 'Not another statue!!' and finally my oldest boy's more martial sentiment 'What good is a canon if it won't fire?'
Yes great times.[;)][:D]

Took my daughter when she was about 8, she knew dad was a bit of a nut about this stuff and the wife enjoyed walking the park with me during the day and the town at night. Everything was going fine till we got to Devil's Den. She was a bit of a tomboy and once she got into those rocks I had a devil of a time getting her out of them. Eventually I had to go up and get her to make her come down. She went back with us two more times. Although she's not into the battlefield as much as her dad she still likes going to Gettysburg. She's 21 now and took her boyfriend there last year and showed him around the battlefield and the town.
