You all may have seen these at some point over the last 16 years but I stumbled upon the deleted scenes from Gettysburg on YouTube. Quality not awesome but some of the scenes are interesting.

Hi, Dale,

Thanks for the link. At least a couple of the scenes are really worth watching.

I still think Gettysburg needs to be retold properly in a trilogy of pictures. Authors certainly have dealt with it that way. There just is too much going on, too much information to cram into a single movie. Moreover , each day is different from the next and presents a new story, a new cast of characters. There are enough re-enactors now to add to the realism. But who could direct it?

Nice find. Enjoyed watching them and makes me want to break out the DVD!

Gents,
as far as I know those deleted scenes were only ever available on the Gettysburg Directors Cut VHS. They never made it onto a DVD. There is, likewise, a directors cut of God's and Generals that adds ALOT of stuff ommitted in the theatrical release. They included parts of the 7 Days, Antietam, and more of Chancellorsville. Not to mention things that happened prior to the war breaking out (Armistead and Hancock; AS Johnston, etc) Apparently that stuff was cut out for a "good" reason; when cut all together, it ran near to 5 or 6 hours as I understand. However, unlike the Gettysburg DC, which is merely difficult to find, the God's and Generals DC will likely never see the light of day in a widespread release. Pity.
<salute>

PS- Drex, as to your question "who could direct a trilogy of Gettysburg movies"; the only person experienced in epic trilogy storytelling: Peter Jackson.

These clips are great! As far as I'm concerned they should have made room for most of them somehow. Leaving out the whole bugle call segment and some other Chamberlain segments, and reducing the time spent on Pickett's charge would have worked for me.
