After due consideration the Government of our great Confederacy <salute> has decided that the weights and measures system will convert to the metric system as at 2359hrs 14th October 1863. This is being done for the following reasons:

To make our road signs and grocery lists unreadable by the yanks
To allow us to drink more
To show the rest of the world we a culturally superior to the Union
To align ourselves with our allies - the British and the French
Because we can

Relax, Boys. No need to over-think this in the ranks. A fer-piece will be just as fer. You blue fellas won't have to pack your sacks any different. The volume of dung in a Yank blivet will remain exactly the same. It is just that the expression of mass will change when the subject comes up in quantitative conversation about Yankee formations.

Regards,

The Eastern Theater requests permission to keep using our own system of measurements.

"The enemy is up that road a piece." (somewhere around 5 - 10 miles)
"The enemy is up yonder." (Under a mile)
"They's heaps of em." (thousands)
"They are as thick as fleas on a dog." (Corps strength)

Does this mean we have to ride our horses on the left hand/wrong side of the road. It's almighty confusing when it comes to those circle thingy, I remember the first time I drove in New Zealand oh what fun the locals didn't think so....

Gery,

No we are still going to ride horses on the wrong side of the road - the CSA government thought that changing the weights and measures, plus changing the side of the road we ride on would be all too much. Plus if we are playing meeting engagements and the CSA was on the same side of the road as the approach yanks more would be killed in the resulting road smash than in the battle

About 30 years ago there was an article in the Irish Times to the effect that the Irish Government was considering a change to have cars drive on the right - to follow French/American practice rather than British. There would be a changeover zone, funded by the EU, at all border crossings, and the construction would create temporary construction jobs. If after a year the experiment was deemed a success, the scheme would be expanded to include trucks and buses.

So now you know why the Irish Brigade war cry was "Fag a' mbealach!" Clear the way!
