Haven't had any problem with email files in Overland.
I strongly suspect one of you is playing from one copy of the file but mailing a different one. Which is very easy to do in Vista and Win 7 if you didn't install the game into some other folder than the default.
Try next round after each of you load the game file to enter your move do a "Save As" and add the turn number to the file name, make your move, and end your turn as normal. This will insure that you find the right file for emailing. If you have trouble finding the new file that will indicate that you were probably sending the wrong file. Don't do this if you are in a campaign because it will cause problems with the hidden attached files for tracking casualties.
