It seems I have been promoted to a Major ?

No one told me - I did not know I had actually made it to Captain.

don't actually think I deserved it.

Does it matter in this club what you do ?

It most certainly does, Major! Congratulations...on both of your promotions!

But seeing as how your one of those Southron guys, you probably had your VMI class on promotions cancelled for some drinking event! But don't despair or feel neglected. Over in the Union Military Academy we sometimes forget to go over the automatic promotional system contained within the Department of Records. Each time you and your opponent register and complete a game, the program automatically calculates the OBD Points you've earned. If you point total exceeds the specific thresholds for a particular rank, you should be automatically notified of that by an e-mail that instructs you to visit the DoR to validate your promotion. Once you're logged in, you simply have to go to the Reports page and visit the "Field Promotions" section. Everything you need to know is contained there.

Now there are lots of us out there sporting ranks that we shouldn't have received! But that is what happens when you stay around long enough and play enough games. It just sort of creeps up on you. :P

Of course, you can earn all sorts of OBD Points and qualify for the next rank promotion. But you don't have to touch off that button in the "Field Promotions" section. You can stay in your present rank for however long you may want and then suddenly explode out upon the scene as a full colonel, causing everyone to wonder where you came from! After that, though, it takes a Cabinet approval to crack on up and into the general officer ranks. And that's where all the free beer is!

I always thought Captain was the best rank, it sounds so good like Captain of the Team, Captain of the Ship and Captain of Industry. Then you have Major - as in Major disaster or major screw-up :)

But seriously, congratulations on the promotion and thanks for being part of the club and don't forget to buy the beer.

Lichtenberg, if I may marshal my thoughts - generally speaking - there is a colonel of truth in what you say.

Tony you should get an automated e-mail which informs you that you have been promoted. From Fld Lt to Col the promotion is based on OBD points, for general ranks it is by points and recommendation to the cabinet.

Don't believe I had gthe emails.

But I do feel underwhelmed, it seems too easy to get promoted - no wins and only a few games played - there is no sense of achievement.

Tony, you could look at it his way, to command a Brigade you really should be a Brig Gen, p but to get there will take 350 points, it took me about two years, although my win loss record is not something I boast about, because it is not that flash  -

By the way I love your poster of John Wayne, I though it was so true I have it put up in my office at work

When is a major not as authoritative as a lieutenant?

Sorry guys - sorry - Sirs, <salute>

It has been too easy to become a Major - I have not even won a battle.

Suh!

Remember the Alamo!

Did those Texans fight bravely? Without question.

Did they win the battle? You know the answer.

Do they deserve honors, promotions, and memorials? Yes

Keep fighting bravely - that is the point - not winning per se.

Gentlemen <salute>

This thread seems to me that if an individual is a Southern officer then one does not have to do anything to get promoted and winning is not important.

Am I understanding this correctly?
If so then I am glad to sign my name . . .

I got promoted from Field Lt to Captain after getting a draw in my second game (first one was a Major Defeat). It was a hard-fought draw though, but apparently that is not what did it.
