35. Ever moved a line of units through an area where they drew defensive fire. If you have four units passing through a targeted hex then there is opportunity for your opponent to fire at each one of them as they pass through. If one unit is left to block your opponent’s line of fire while the others pass behind them to safety, then your opponent just got reduced to only one unit drawing defensive fire for one movement. The same principle can be applied to artillery moving up behind a line to unlimber. If they are subject to drawing fire, use an infantry unit to block that fire until they are unlimbered. You can even play peekaboo with your artillery, by unlimbering them behind your line and then move a unit during your turn to open up the artillery’s firing lane so that they can fire and then move the unit back in place so that your artillery can’t be fired upon. You might lose some infantrymen doing this but they are a lot cheaper and easier to deal with than uncrewed or destroyed artillery.
