News from the good folks at JTS about a July sale, upcoming updates & free demos, and your final chance to migrate older HPS games over to the JTS version:

John Tiller Software would like to announce our upcoming sale. From July 1st - July 19th every title that has been out longer than 12 months will be on sale in our store for $29.95. No order minimums to receive the discount pricing. The only games not included in this are:
Japan '46
Campaign Shenandoah
Wolfpack
Wellington's Peninsular War
Serbia '14

More Updates coming: Prior to the sale kicking off we plan on releasing updates for all three games in the First World War Campaigns series as well as Campaign Waterloo. So keep an eye on our site for those announcements. We also have a couple of new, free, demos for other series nearing the completion mark.

Closing remarks: And finally, we want to address the migration process for old HPS customers. We are closing the window on this offer, with June 30th being the last day to take advantage of it - so if you still have games to migrate to the JTS version contact Support@johntillersoftware.com soon. You can simply send a picture of your games, or I can find you in the HPS database if you bought directly from them.

So which one of the latest releases would be recommended.....Campaign Shenandoah or Campaign Petersburg?

Petersburgs seems like a larger version of Overland and Shenandoah looks like a large cavalry engagement (w Stonewall troops to support).

Would be curious to hear some comparisons of the two and recommendations.

Hi,

Both have some good scenarios. The Petersburg game has fewer battles and more variants on battles. Shenandoah has more different battles but more seem to be one-sided. Of the two I like Shenandoah a bit better but you will get value from both.

I did play test work on Overland and also did some work on Petersburg in the early stages, dropped out due to real life issues.
Worked on the last stages of testing for Shenandoah which introduced the new variable Objective VP's which made it interesting.
There are some scenarios where you have to get the objectives early to win or hold them as the VP's can accumulate per turn sometimes to one side, sometimes to both.

Petersburg is the continuation of Overland and has similar situations, if you have and like Overland it would be a good choice.
I don't currently own it as I didn't feel my limited work on it justified a free copy and I was retired from the club when it came out and taking a break from the ACW games.
Trying to decide whether I should pick it up during the sale to complete my ACW collection as I already picked up a couple games from the other series.

Shenandoah has a lot of smaller, shorter battles, the majority of the scenarios are one day affairs of 40 or less turns.
Covering both the 1862 battles as well as the 1864 campaigns of both sides it has more fluid battles and several short campaigns.
The 1864 campaign gives the Union player a chance to play with a large effective cavalry force, something few of the games allow.
Did a lot of play test work on this one both solitaire, against the AI and some pbem games.
This one got me back into the ACW games and prompted my return to the ACWGC although I haven't played it a lot since playtesting it.
Since my return to the club have limited myself to 1-2 games as I continue to play some of the other Tiller series.

For what it's worth that's my take on them, as usual the best advice is pick the one that interests you the most.
If you have all the other games you might want to pick up both to complete your collection.

I didn't buy them all, but I got enough to qualify for the bulk discount... 7 games for under $25 a pop.

Now I can get my tail kicked from Keystone to Show Me
