Post subject:  4.01 Problem?

This is so strange it doesn't even make sense to me. And I have seen strange over the years.

We are engaged in a MP game battle (5 vs. 5). All of us are using 4.01. Everything was fine through the first turns.

Here's where it gets all "Twilight Zone."

The turn was sent from side A to side B.

Side B opened the turn using their password.

The game file that opened though was from a wholly different scenario being played using the same title. The replay ran its full length. Then it ended, and the screen that popped up was the game that was supposed to be there in the first place. That's not even possible, right? I mean, if it was the wrong file... why would the password work? But then.... why would it revert back to the correct game after the incorrect replay?

Huh?!

I sent out an email to all the players. Everyone confirmed they were using 4.01. We asked if anyone was playing a very specific scenario. Someone said, yes, they were playing that game in a 1 on 1 match. That was the replay that we all watched!

I am stumped. I see how all the pieces are there for this to happen. But it's like trying to comprehend how someone got a St. Bernard through the cat door. My mind just can't see HOW it happened.

I asked around and another member mentioned having the same issue in a game. Turns were going back and forth when, suddenly, a replay from another scenario popped up, played, ended, and reverted back to the correct game at the end.

Anyone else having anything as bizarre as that happening?

I believe this happens when a person has two games of the same title, open at the same time. The program gets confused as to which Battle Replay to record, so it merges them together. I am not sure if this is always the case, but I have seen it happen. This is not a function of the 4.01 updates. It is actually an old problem.

The best practice is to be absolutely certain that you have closed all other games within the same title before working on your next turn.

This just happened to me in a CCC game I was playing using The War of 1812. We had started one game of the scenario, stopped and then restarted with a second game instead. Same wierd replay situation. Sounds like it may have been around a while, or at least may have been introduced by WDS 4.0 into ACW and EAW series, and perhaps others?

Our guy confirmed that he had the two windows open at once. One was a campaign game and the other a stand-alone battle.

How odd! But that fits with what you said.

Thanks!

I have encountered this a couple of times. The answer, as others have indicated, is the same game being opened in different sessions.
