Responses to Various comments:

1) We have options as to just when to implement the new rule and it will done in a manner that prevents any temporary imbalance of the Cabinet members.

2) The Club created a Recruiting Officer Position in 2001 which is presently held by Jason Campbell. He is actively posting Club Information in ACW sites of many kinds.

3) It was my understanding that WDS did have a link to the ACWGC on its website. Will follow up on this one.

Shoot , I knew Jason did that, slipped my mind. My mistake.

I am all in favor of adopting the rules change that reduce the size of the Cabinet.

For quite some time it has been an extraordinary challenge to identify members willing to take on ANY leadership position, let alone an elected office as are the Cabinet secretaries. Surveys conducted by the Cabinet have validated our collective assumption that members generally just wanted to play games and that the club military-style hierarchy was simply the "cost of doing business." With this common attitude within the club, it is no wonder that shrinking membership numbers have resulted in a severe shortage of volunteer leaders. When few people are willing to serve, even more are unwilling to serve in multiple roles. Would we rather have active an active and engaged Cabinet member, or have this same person serve instead as an active and engaged filed leader (AC, CC, DC)? It is a stark choice that we face during every election.

To delay implementation while awaiting a renaissance of volunteerism continues to impose a significant burden on those few who are willing to serve and on the club at large to "beat the bushes" and strong arm candidates during the election cycles -- both or which are an investment in time and energy best spent elsewhere in the organization. Moreover, there is no guarantee that newer members will be any more likely to stand for election than the current membership. If, by some unbroken succession of miracles, there is an upsurge of enthusiasm for leadership and a dramatic growth in our membership, then we could simply change the rule back to seven vice five.

The "1:2" argument is somewhat hollow. It's a great concept provided you can find enough people willing to serve and if a meaningful percentage of the membership actually voted. Experience tells us that neither are true at this time... not enough volunteers and members' response to elections is tepid at best. Clearly, trying to sustain a 1:2 ratio in the present environment is unsound when it means a "YES" to Cabinet service comes at the expense of "NO" to filed unit leadership.

Down sizing the Cabinet reflects the current reality and should be adopted now.
