Hi all
Name is John Rodriguez and a cadet. Just finished an excellent training game and learned a great deal from Michael Barycki.
I live in Virginia, 15 miles from the Bull Run battlefield. Enjoy hiking there every so often.
Born and raised in NYC then joined the Army and retired 28 years later.
I am interested in all eras of history, and love to read about them and play war games. Right now focusing on:
American Civil War - I just bought a good number of WDS Campaign games including Ozark, Antietam, Shiloh... My obsessive compulsive goal is to play multiplayer every battle in chronological order, or as best as possible, starting with Booneville and Carthage (Ozark) and 1st Bull Run (Antietam).
Please let me know if you are interested in joining me!
Other eras I am reading about and play games in:
Greco-Persian Wars - Field of Glory 2
Early Byzantine Wars (Belisarius) - Field of Glory 2
War of the Roses - Pike & Shot
French Indochina War - Campaign Series Vietnam
Very glad to join this auspicious group and looking forward to good gaming!
Cheers

John,

Welcome Sir, to this very auspicious group of like minded gentlemen. It appears you got the recruiting booths mixed up on signing on the 'dotted', not to worry though, it can be rectified when you see the 'Light' 28 years service is indeed auspicious and noteworthy. You will find many obsessive and compulsive people here or here abouts so you're in good company Sir. You idea of a chronological campaign sounds like something some OCD types  might be 'interested' in following in due course. In the meantime sign up for the second part of the Big East Challenge, upcoming shortly, and the remaining Tournament games, great learning experiences and even better fun. I'm sure your past 28 years will stand you in good stead in the coming conflicts.

Like most things in life, 'ya get out what ya put in' Enjoy !

Welcome! Another Northern Virginian I see! Love the Manassas Battlefield, I was there last week for an article I'm working on.

One of my favourite Civil War personalities also hailed from NYC, the great cartographer Jedediah Hotchkiss. He dovoted his skills to the Confederacy producing numerous maps during his time with them, including this (https://www.loc.gov/resource/g3882s.cwh00089/?r=0.322,1.494,0.48,0.295,0) very large and detailed map. I believe that map, and Hotchkiss' other efforts played a significant role in Jackson's success in the Shenandoah.
When you compare that Hotchkiss map to the sort that others in the Confederacy had available, especially in the west (e.g. Polk's middle Tenessee map - https://www.civilwarshades.org/document/map-of-middle-tennessee/), you can see the difference a good map makes to a General.

Hey John, welcome back to the Army (in another sense) :) really great write up sir and with any luck, I might be able to one day participate in a multi-player game. Sounds like an ambitious goal (if for no other reason, I have an idea of how long some of the scenarios might be. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences, and observations. All the best
