I recently submitted what I perceived to be a bug to WDS support and was informed they are working on a CWB update which they hope to get out before the end of the year.

The bug in question happened during a Vicksburg scenario (large Champions Hill) in which artillery routed into a swamp hex. Parameter data doesn't allow artillery to enter a swamp hex, but apparently routing overrode that. However, once in the swamp hex, the artillery couldn't move out even to an adjacent clear terrain hex, although once rallied it could unlimber and subsequently
fire. Support agreed it was a bug and they would work to correct it.

I also conveyed my displeasure with the situation where the second moving player gets to attack by fire and/or melee during the final dusk turn, but the night morale penalty applies to the results.
Personally, I disagree with the night morale penalty period, as I don't recall a situation during the Civil War where a massive rout occurred at night, but maybe someone can enlighten me. Don't
know if that will be addressed in the coming update.

The largest night action I recall was at Chickamauga where a full battle occurred after sunset between Cleburne's Division and Thomas's men (see Peter Cozzens "This Terrible Sound" p. 268). Pure and utter chaos.

But I agree with your statement that the side that moves last at dusk gets an unfair advantage as the side which is attacked has to go through a night morale check as opposed to a dusk morale check. But I can't figure out how they'd fix that since the system would probably have to be reprogrammed to run the morale checks to the previous turn's conditions.

But then whoever attacked first at dawn would then get an advantage as their opponent would go through a night morale check, lol. Screwed either way.

But I am no programmer so will let that be someone else's headache.

My best advice is to make sure the Yankees don't make it to night

Hi, Blake,

Night battles appear to be few and far between in the Civil War, but the one that always sticks in my mind is the Mule Shoe salient at Spottsylvania.

https://www.battlefields.org/learn/maps ... ay-12-1864

Another is Wauhatchie during the siege of Chattanooga.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of ... ivil%20War.

In neither of these did there appear to be wholesale routing by either side,

If the night morale penalty must remain, then perhaps they can make the morale checks the last thing that happens during the current turn rather than the first thing that happens during the next turn. I would also appreciate the ability to watch the routed units scamper. Seems in the dark recesses of my mind that was once the case, but the older I get the more tricks my memory seems to play.
